The numbers on Dan Carpenter deal

The deal signed by place-kicker Dan Carpenter is right in line with the market for a veteran kicker with his credentials.

It's four years and $9.95 million, just about $2.5 million a year. Carpenter got a signing bonus of $2.15 million. His base salaries are $1.25 million, $1.3 million, $2.02 million and $2.12 million. Carolina recently gave Graham Gano $3 million a year. Gano, like Carpenter, is a highly accurate place kicker, but Gano is one of the league leaders in touchbacks on kickoffs.
